SAVT Board of Directors

Job Descriptions

The rewards of serving on the SAVT Board are great and many! Below are brief job descriptions of the various Board positions. Of course when you come on Board there is a full team / manual / full job descriptions / and standard operating procedures to assist you with your duties.
General Responsibilities:
  • Must attend 75% of all scheduled SAVT meetings within a 12 month period
  • Administer the affairs of the Association
Qualifications:
  • Be an Active member of SAVT
  • Be a highly motivated, self starting and organized individual
  • Be a team player, willing to work towards the growth of the Veterinary Technology profession
  • Be able to make the required time & travel commitments

PRESIDENT – ELECT

Duties:
  • Chair meetings if President is unavailable.
  • Assist with organization of CE Chapters throughout the province.
  • Do SAVT reports for the SVMA Newsletter.
  • Attend and give a report at all SAVT Board of Directors Meetings.
  • Assist with public relations events and board activities.
  • Along with the President:
    • Talk to 1st & 2nd year students in the Veterinary Technology Program at SIAST Kelsey.
    • Talk to Olds students when they are at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
    • Talk to Veterinary Students.
    • Meet SVMA President & the Board of Directors and attend their AGM in September.
    • Keep in contact with Kelsey Program head – at least once per year.
Responsibilities:
  • Available for a three year term (one year as President-Elect, one year as President, and one year as Past President)


PRESIDENT

Duties:
  • Meetings:
    • Supervise bylaw changes, set up the agenda, and call for nominations for the AGM.
    • Chair all general and Board of Directors meetings. Prepare report for every meeting and every issue of the newsletter. Set dates and times for all meetings and put announcement in the newsletter.
    • Set up the agenda for meetings of the Board of Directors. Preside over all meetings.
    • Read over all Annual General Meeting and Board of Directors Meeting minutes to ensure they are correct.
  • Along with the Office Administrator:
    • General management and supervision of the affairs and operations of the association and public relations.
  • Other:
    • Coordinate the presentation to the students at the National Exam sittings.
    • Meet with committees at least once and ensure they are following policy in their operations.
    • Assist with public relations events/ activities.
  • Liaisons (along with President-Elect):
    • Talk to 1st & 2nd year students in the Veterinary Technologist Program at SIAST Kelsey.
    • Talk to Olds students when they are at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
    • Talk to Veterinary Students.
    • Be available for consultation with the SAVT/SVMA liaison, registrar or any member of the SVMA and attend their AGM in September.
    • Keep in contact with Kelsey Program head – at least once per year.
  • Awards and Bursaries:
    • Arrange for selection and presentations at the Annual Awards Ceremony.


PAST-PRESIDENT

Duties:
  • Work in an advisory capacity to the Board.
  • Assist with public relations events and Board activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Available for a one year term.


SECRETARY

Duties:
  • Record minutes of General and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Ensure that Board of Directors has update of SVMA and SAVT Bylaws.
  • Make sure SAVT address/phone appears in every SVMA newsletter.
  • Assist with public relations events and board activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Available for a two year term.


FINANCIAL OFFICER

Duties:
  • Ensure that full and accurate accounts are kept of all assets, liabilities, receipts and disbursements of the Association and shall oversee the deposit of all monies, securities and other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the Association.
  • Assist with public relations events and board activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Available for a two year term.


MEMBER-AT-LARGE

Duties:
  • Represent SAVT and/or schedule volunteers of SAVT to Board approved activities, such as:
    • Vetavision is organized by the third year veterinary students at WCVM and is held every three years (around the 4th weekend in March)
    • Pet Expo is the 3rd weekend in October
    • Animal Health Week is organized by the CVMA and is held the 1st full week in October
    • National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) is proclaimed by CAAHTT and is the 3rd full week in October
    • Doggone Safe – Promote the program and enlist volunteers
    • Chapter Organization
    • Career days; promoting our career and association to Veterinarians and VT students
  • Form a committee to aid with any of the above events.
  • Assist with board activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Available for a one year term.


CAAHTT DIRECTOR

Duties:
  • Represent SAVT on the Canadian Association of Animal Health Technologists and Technicians board and be an active representative for our provincial association. (You will be a member of two boards – SAVT and CAAHTT)
  • Read other provincial newsletters.
  • Read and reply to all mail received from the CAAHTT office.
  • Be willing to take on a leadership role and bring ideas and plans back to your provincial association.
Responsibilities:
  • Available for a two-three year terms
  • Represent SAVT at the annual CAAHTT conference & AGM
Qualifications:
  • Be a team player, willing to work towards the growth of the Veterinary Technology profession across Canada
  • Be able to make the required time & travel commitments
