Mandatory CE

Continuing Education is mandatory to maintain Active Membership.

Continuing Education adds to our credibility and helps us develop as a profession. In attending continuing education events, technologists show initiative in learning about new techniques, products and trends in the industry that will benefit their clients.

BYLAW 5.2.3
To maintain active membership, an active member of SAVT must accumulate a minimum of 20 continuing education credits every two (2) years, beginning January 1 of the year following date of registration.

20 CREDITS are to be earned over a TW0-YEAR period, inclusive from January 1 to December 31. The original form with credits entered (on the reverse side) should be submitted each time you renew your membership (January 1st – every year). If you are unsure how many credits should be awarded for a seminar, please write the number of hours or days that was involved with the seminar. Keep a photocopy for your records. Your credits are recorded and are cumulative in the two-year period. A witness is a member of any AHT/VT Association, or Veterinary Association.
 

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT EXAMPLES:

 

Certification in a specialty  (CALAS, Veterinary Technologist Specialty in anesthesia, emergency & critical care, dental, or internal medicine, Certified veterinary practice manager)

 

15 points

Post-Secondary course that is related to animal health (eg: animal behavior or physiology)

10 points

Conference: For each full day of any major educational conference (ex. SAVT Annual Conference, CAAHTT/CVMA   Conference, CALAS, Western Veterinary Conference (Las Vegas), North American Veterinary Conference (Florida), other provincial association’s conference)

5 points

Supervising a Veterinary Technology student from an accredited college on a 5 – 6 week practicum in your workplace

5 Credits

SAVT Board of Director or Conference Committee Executive

5 Credits

Published Articles: Tech Life, Tech News, Veterinary Technician Magazine, Canadian Vet Tech, NAVTA Journal or any other technologist or veterinary publication

4 Credits

Presentations/Speaker:  you are the speaker with a topic related to the animal health field

3 Credits

Lab/Hands on Clinic: includes  work place related computer training, first aid, whmis, radiation safety, health & safety courses and labs not part of a conference.

3 Credits

Be a Tree Kit presentation or Online “Doggone Safe” course

3 Credits

SAVT Meeting or Executive Meeting with CE topic

3 Credits

Chapter or Academy Meeting with CE topic

3 Credits

SAVT / Conference  Committee member : SAVT, Lakeland or SIAST PAC committee member

2 Credits

SAVT AGM Meeting attendance

1 Credit

Meetings: SAVT General meeting with no CE topic, Public meetings  i.e. Pet Loss Support Group, 4-H, SPCA, producer meetings, Chapter or Academy meeting with no CE, VTH grand rounds, WCVM noon seminars, Industry Representative demonstration of a new test kit/product

1 Credit

Volunteer Hours: directly related to animal health i.e. international wildlife, zoo

1 Credit/per hour

Unpublished Articles: Must submit to SAVT for Review

1 Credit

Public Education: mall booth, career days, Vetavision, Pet Expo, etc

1 Credit /per hour

On-Line CE / Webinars:
