Primary Purpose: To support the ongoing extension activities of the University of Saskatchewan Poultry Extension Program.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Poultry Extension Veterinarian, the successful candidate will assist with day-to-day duties.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

- Necropsy activities, including but not limited to, receiving, and preparing cases for examination (handling and assisting necropsy), recovering and tracking case information, and collecting samples for chemical, microbial and histopathology testing.

- Field visits to poultry farms and associated industry for data collection pertaining to extension projects and disease surveillance (blood and/or tissue collection).

- Administrative services including data entry, maintenance of client files and answering phone calls.

- Performing other duties, as assigned.

Education: A diploma or degree in Biological Science, Animal Science or Veterinary Technical training with 2 years veterinary clinical experience, and a valid driver’s license.

- Strong communication, organizational and teamwork skills

- Accuracy in notetaking.

- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

- Demonstrated ability and comfort handling animals.

- Flexible and adaptable approach to changing situations.

- Demonstrated ability to work independently but consult with supervisors, as necessary.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with veterinary clinic software.

- Experience with necropsy and poultry species will be considered a strong asset.
